The Accidental Revolution
In April 2023, a small group of AI enthusiasts started a shared Feishu knowledge base. They called it "WaytoAGI"—通往AGI之路, the road to Artificial General Intelligence. Their ambition was modest: create a free, accessible resource for anyone navigating the chaotic landscape of AI learning.
Two years later, that modest document has become something far larger. WaytoAGI has grown into a comprehensive knowledge ecosystem connecting over 9 million users, with its knowledge base accessed over 100 million times. It spans nearly 200 universities and hundreds of enterprises, operating through a fully decentralised, volunteer-driven model with no full-time employees. What began as a resource has become a movement.
A Living Knowledge Ecosystem
At the heart of WaytoAGI lies its knowledge base—a living, breathing repository of AI knowledge that updates daily. The ecosystem is organised into several core pillars:
Learning Pathways: Structured guides for beginners and advanced practitioners alike, covering everything from foundational AI concepts to cutting-edge research.
Prompt Engineering: Comprehensive resources on crafting effective prompts, one of the most practical skills in the AI era.
AI Agents: Deep dives into the architecture and deployment of autonomous AI systems.
Tools and Resources: Curated collections of AI tools, from Claude Code tutorials to AI painting guides.
Industry Analysis: In-depth,万字-level reports on AI trends and developments.
Community Updates: Daily news digests and weekly AI roundups keeping the community informed.
The knowledge base functions as an AI's "living dictionary"—a constantly updated reference that ensures learners and practitioners alike have access to the most current information.
The Community That Learns by Doing
What distinguishes WaytoAGI from traditional educational platforms is its philosophy: learning through doing, not passive consumption. The community has cultivated what it calls a "deep co-evolution culture" centred on concrete projects and real problem-solving.
This ethos manifests in tangible ways. The community's signature event—the "AI切磋大会" (AI Practice Exchange)—takes place on the last Sunday of every month. These are not lectures or training camps; they are collaborative spaces where participants share projects, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from each other's failures and successes. By the 25th iteration, these events had expanded to 40 cities with 2,800 simultaneous participants.
Local chapters have emerged organically across the globe. The Qingdao chapter, established in May 2025, grew to over 330 members within a year, organising 10 offline events with over 400 participants. Similar nodes now exist in eight countries, creating a truly global learning network that actively shares Chinese AI models with the world.
The Super-Individual Incubator
WaytoAGI has positioned itself as an incubator for what it calls "super-individuals"—people who leverage AI to multiply their creative and productive capacity. The community provides the ecosystem—technical validation, capability complementarity, and trust accumulation—that enables individuals to thrive in the AGI era.
The model has proven remarkably effective. The community has incubated multiple projects with over a thousand participants. Its partnership with Chengdu Media Industry Group to launch the country's first "Sci-Fi IP + Future Scenario" OPC community demonstrates how this ecosystem model can extend beyond technology into creative industries.
From Digital to Physical
In 2026, WaytoAGI began its transition from a purely digital community to a physical presence. The community's first physical space—an eight-floor OPC community centre in Beijing—received over 400 applications within its first month. This expansion reflects a recognition that while AI learning can begin online, genuine collaboration and community require physical spaces where people can meet, create, and grow together.
The GFN Context: Borderless Learning as Borderless Potential
For Global Future Nexus, WaytoAGI represents a vital model of how AGI knowledge and tools can be democratised at scale. The community's mission—"to make more people powerful through AI"—resonates directly with GFN's commitment to borderless human potential. Its decentralised, volunteer-driven model offers an alternative to the concentration of AI expertise in a handful of corporate labs, demonstrating that the path to AGI can be a collective, open, and inclusive journey.
By providing free, accessible AI education to millions, WaytoAGI is building the human infrastructure that responsible AGI integration requires. It is not just teaching people to use AI tools; it is cultivating the critical thinking, ethical awareness, and collaborative skills that will be essential in a multi-intelligent future. The question is not whether communities like WaytoAGI will shape the AGI era—they already are. The question is how we can support and scale such initiatives to ensure that the benefits of AGI are shared by all.
