  • Short Bio / Excerpt:

Ivan Yanakov is a world-renowned Bulgarian classical pianist, conductor, and musical educator who has performed across more than 30 countries. Known for his expressive interpretations and deep artistic versatility, Yanakov has established an international career that spans four continents. Whether performing as a solo recitalist, a chamber musician, or a guest soloist with major global orchestras, his work connects standard classical traditions with dynamic modern compositions.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, into a multi-generational family of musicians, Yanakov's formative musical identity was shaped early. In his home country, he studied under prominent professors including Triphon Silyanovsky and Meyer Franck. To further his higher education, he moved to the United States to attend the prestigious Mannes College of Music in New York City, earning both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. During his decade-long tenure in the United States, his elite technical acumen was recognized when he won the Artists International Debut Series Prize, leading to his formal solo debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. He furthered his training as a full-scholarship fellow at the historic Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy.

Yanakov’s subsequent performance career has taken him to some of the world's most celebrated concert halls. His major stage appearances include Cadogan Hall in London, Sydney Town Hall, the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Taipei National Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, and Hong Kong City Hall. In addition to his heavy live performance schedule, his recordings are distributed globally across more than 120 digital platforms. A major milestone in his recording history occurred in February 2026, with the worldwide release of his studio album performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s monumentally challenging Piano Concerto No. 3, backed by the legendary London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Nayden Todorov.

Expanding beyond solo performance, Yanakov founded the London Chamber Players as Artistic Director. Following his conducting debut with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in 2010, he has led ensembles in major global cities such as Madrid, Moscow, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, with broadcasts spanning four continents.

Balancing a rigorous touring schedule with a deep commitment to music education, Yanakov is a highly sought-after lecturer who regularly teaches masterclasses at prestigious global universities and conservatories. His current and recurring academic affiliations include delivering specialized instruction at the Birmingham Conservatoire, Seoul National University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Soochow University Music School in China, and the National Taiwan University of the Arts. Furthermore, he serves as a regular member and president of the jury at numerous international piano competitions, including the Ernest Bloch International Competition at the Royal College of Music in London, helping shape the paths of the next generation of musical talent.
