  • Short Bio / Excerpt:

Michael Lin (林明傑) is a highly distinguished international intellectual property (IP) attorney, corporate consultant, and non-profit executive based in Hong Kong SAR. Renowned as a leading authority on Asian patent law and cross-border commercial strategy, his career has spanned nearly three decades. He has consistently been recognized by international legal publications, receiving elite accolades including the Managing IP "IP Star" and IAM Strategy 300 Global Leader designations.

His career began with an academic foundation in the United States, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Realizing that his professional strengths lay outside laboratory bench chemistry, he transitioned into legal studies, completing his Juris Doctor (JD) at the Boston University School of Law. He subsequently qualified as an Ohio State Attorney and a registered USPTO Patent Attorney, entering the specialized legal landscape of chemical and biological sciences.

In 1997, Lin relocated to Asia, initiating a foundational 13-year corporate career with the multinational consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G). Operating out of P&G's hubs in Japan and Beijing, he ultimately rose to become the Head of the China IP Group. In this executive capacity, he managed pan-Asian patent strategies, licensing arrangements, and M&A due diligence across primary business units—such as Oral Care and Fabric Care—navigating complex regulations across China, Japan, India, and Australia.

Following his corporate tenure, Lin transitioned into private practice in late 2010 by joining the prominent international intellectual property firm Marks & Clerk in Hong Kong. For over 13 years, he served as a Partner, leading the China/HK Chemical and BioSciences group. Since moving into independent consultancy, he leverages his deep-tier expertise to help entrepreneurs, tech startups, and small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) protect their research, secure patent prosecutions, and leverage intellectual property as a core business tool to accelerate commercial growth.

Beyond his legal practice, Lin plays a prominent role in international non-governmental organizations, technology incubation, and medical philanthropies. He serves as the Board Member and President of the International Intellectual Property Commercialization Council (IIPCC) and operates as an advisor to the Hong Kong AI Lab. Furthermore, he channels his strategic governance capabilities into supporting global healthcare research, serving actively on the boards of directors for the Children's Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI) and the Raiden Science Foundation.
