Short Bio / Excerpt:
Ir Prof. Tim Wong is an acclaimed chartered civil engineer, sustainability pioneer, and academic who serves as the Technical Director and ESG & Sustainability Hub Lead at AECOM Hong Kong. Boasting nearly two decades of localized and international expertise, Wong operates at the cutting edge of climate-resilient infrastructure, green building strategy, and carbon management. He is widely recognized as a transformative figure within the engineering community, dedicating his career to decarbonizing the built environment across Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and Southeast Asia.
Wong's professional trajectory began in 2008 following his graduation from McMaster University, after which he completed a Master's degree at the University of Hong Kong in 2012. Early in his career, he demonstrated a forward-thinking approach by embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into heavy civil works long before the framework achieved mainstream corporate adoption. A notable early achievement included his critical civil contributions to a complex drainage tunnel project in northwest Hong Kong Island, where he successfully merged pragmatic technical design with nature-positive, climate-adaptive engineering solutions.
Prior to taking the helm at AECOM in January 2025, Wong built a robust foundation over a highly successful 16-year tenure at the multinational engineering firm Arup. Ascending to the role of Associate, he spearheaded numerous high-profile regional decarbonization and sustainable development projects. Among his key structural advisory milestones, he served as the Project Manager for the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s enhancement scheme for green production certifications, and worked as an innovation specialist advising government bodies on design and construction sustainability.
Armed with advanced industry credentials as a Certified ESG Planner, Analyst, and Carbon Auditor, Wong has translated his corporate successes into impactful public policy advocacy. He holds a professional fellowship with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and actively influences local green benchmarks through his seat on the Hong Kong Green Building Council's Infrastructure Rating System Committee. His systemic contributions earned him the prestigious title of "Young Engineer of the Year" from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in 2020, and he later elevated Hong Kong's environmental footprint on the world stage as an official city delegate at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.
Today, Wong continues to shape both the physical and academic landscapes of sustainable infrastructure. Alongside directing corporate climate risk strategies and tech-driven ESG integrations at AECOM's Asia headquarters, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Academy of Innovation within the City University of Hong Kong. From this academic platform, he actively mentors the next generation of engineers on utilizing digital innovation and circular economy principles to tackle urban carbon neutrality. His global perspective remains highly sought-after, highlighted by his panel appearances at major environmental events like the Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit.
