Stephen G. "Steve" Vickers is a prominent political risk consultant, corporate intelligence expert, and former high-ranking colonial police officer. Born in 1955 in Liverpool, England, Vickers grew up on the Wirral and spent his early years participating in the Army Cadets. His early legal and tactical interests eventually guided him toward a lifelong career in law enforcement and high-stakes risk mitigation across the Asia-Pacific region.
In his early twenties, Vickers relocated to Asia to join the Royal Hong Kong Police Force, where he served with distinction for 18 years. He rose through the ranks to become a Senior Superintendent and commanded the force’s elite Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB). Fluent in Cantonese, Vickers specialized in deep-cover tactical operations targeting Triads, international organized crime syndicates, major product contamination extortions, and high-profile kidnapping incidents—including the infamous 1990 abduction of billionaire Teddy Wang.
Transitioning to the private sector in 1993, Vickers applied his security expertise to corporate risk management. He initially established the Asian risk and investigation practice for PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) before staging a successful management buyout to launch International Risk Limited. After expanding the firm across seven regional offices, he sold the enterprise to the NYSE-listed advisory giant FTI Consulting in 2006, continuing to guide their regional operations as CEO and Chairman for several years.
Today, he operates as the Founder and CEO of Steve Vickers & Associates (SVA), a specialized corporate intelligence and risk mitigation consulting firm based in Hong Kong. In this capacity, he acts as a vital advisor to financial institutions, multinationals, and investment banks, providing crucial due diligence for initial public offerings (IPOs) and strategic crisis containment. His firm’s expertise became highly sought after during periods of severe macroeconomic and political volatility across the Greater China region.
Vickers is widely recognized as one of Asia's foremost authorities on regional security and political risk.
