Short Bio / Excerpt:
Nikhil Bhaskaran, known widely as "Nik," is a first-generation technology entrepreneur, hardware innovator, and community builder. He is best recognized as the pioneer behind Shunya OS and Brainy Pi. Driven by a passion to democratize deep technology, Bhaskaran has dedicated over a decade of his life to core electronics design, firmware development, and the global manufacturing supply chain.
His entrepreneurial journey began at the young age of 17. He gained his initial revenue and local recognition by running a laptop assembly and repair company. Recognizing the unmatched scale of the global electronics market, he relocated to Shenzhen, China, where he spent nearly eight years running an electronics design and product development business. This intensive experience in the "hardware capital of the world" provided him with rare, hands-on insights into the global supply chain, prototyping, and mass production.
Upon returning to India, Bhaskaran focused his efforts on building and nurturing an open-source technical ecosystem. He founded IoTIoT.in, an emerging technology community created to train and upskill engineers in artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (AIoT). This communal effort laid the groundwork for his next venture, Shunya OS, an innovative AI-focused operating system and firmware design startup structured around sharing advanced software knowledge.
To solve a common roadblock for developers, Bhaskaran went on to engineer Brainy Pi, a robust enterprise-grade single-board computer built as a powerful alternative to the Raspberry Pi. Brainy Pi was designed specifically to simplify the process of launching physical hardware products, allowing creators to seamless move from a simple prototype to commercial mass production while utilizing the exact same chipset and firmware. This innovation cemented his status as a thought leader in the hardware ecosystem, leading to his selection by MIT to study efficient embedded AI systems.
Throughout his career, Bhaskaran has received prestigious industry recognition, notably being chosen as a global ambassador for the ARM Innovator Program. He has previously served as a Mozilla Representative and frequently features as a keynote speaker at major tech conferences. Characterizing himself as a hands-on executive who values direct execution over fancy titles, Nik continues to build open-source infrastructure and empower emerging tech talent across the globe.
